My name is Katie Howell and I am one of the full-time Physical Education teachers at Fulton Elementary School. I have been teaching PE for 9 years, all of which have been here at Fulton! Not only do I teach PE, I also coach an after-school program for 3rd-5th grade girls called Girls on the Run! Last winter I was also the Assistant Coach for Atholton's Girls Basketball team - we were County Champs! I love all things related to physical education, sports, health and wellness and of course the Redskins/Capitals/O's!!!!
During my time here at Fulton, I've help shape our PE program with new activities, as well as some new traditions! In 2007 I created a school-wide recess walk/jog program, called 'Fit Falcons,' that students can participate in during outdoor recess. In 2010, I organized the Turkey Trot run and a food drive, which takes place the week of Thanksgiving! This program has taught the students the importance of having a healthy and giving heart. In 2012 I began coaching the Girls on the Run teams here at Fulton. Also, in 2012 I became Fulton's representative for the Healthy Howard Schools program. Through this program Fulton has been awarded 1 silver, 2 gold and 1 PLATINUM medals for being a Healthy School! This was also the year we started Fulton's first Wellness Committee. This committee is used to help promote and encourage healthy practices and physical activity throughout the school and community. This school year I will be mentoring a senior from Towson University. Mr. Watts will be completing 6 weeks of his student teaching requirements at Fulton! We are both very excited for this great learning experience!!
I graduated from Salisbury University where I played Women's Basketball for 4 years and received a degree in Physical Education! Salisbury is also where I met my husband, he was the pitcher for Salisbury's Baseball team! We got married in October 2012 and I went from Ms. MacFarland to Mrs. Howell! I also finished my Master’s degree in Curriculum, Instruction and Administration from McDaniel College.
